"What limit can be put to this power, acting during long ages and rigidly scrutinising the whole constitution, structure, and habits of each creature, — favouring the good and rejecting the bad? I can see no limit to this power, in slowly and beautifully adapting each form to the most complex relations of life. "

Genomic DNA is subjected to damage by both external environmental agents and endogenous metabolic processes. To maintain the integrity of the genome, a variety of repair mechanisms have evolved that remove damaged bases from DNA. However, sometimes DNA damage is not repaired before replication takes place due to mutations in repair systems, limited cellular repair capacity, or timing...more

Welcome, on the site of "Mutagenesis and Carcinogenesis Research Group".

The lab has been estabilshed in 2003 by the leadership of Lajos Haracska in the Genetics Institute Of Biological Research Center at Szeged Hungary.

Our mission is to have a deeper understanding about the repair of the thousands of damage which forms on our DNA every day.
